The wood
miser was purchased in 1985 with funding from the Methodist Church of
Switzerland. The original vision was to generate income to support
retired pastors, but this goal was not achieved. In 2001, The North
Katanga Annual Conference, under the leadership of Bishop Ntambo
repaired the machine and started using the wood planks it produced as
rafters in new parsonages, churches, schools, clinics and other
buildings in the conference. Currently, the rates from the local
electric company make use of the machine very expensive.
