The
Stephenville Lions Club and the Lubumbashi Doyen Lions Club, Democratic Republic of the Congo are working together to support a vision clinic in the village of Kamina. This venture was begun by Melody Ball, a Lion, in the Spring of 2007. Melody has trained a team of Kamina village healthcare workers to perform elementary vision screening and to fit recycled eyeglasses to the needs of their patients. She has provided the team with basic optical equipment and trained them in its use.

Bavon Mbayo Mukalay, who trained in Kinshasa, DRC for two years in Ophthalmology now works in the Kamina Vision Center as a volunteer, checking eyes and dispensing donated eyeglasses.

To the left, a clinic volunteer displays donated eyeglasses which are dispensed to patients. Before the donation of equipment, this process was done by trial and error and there was not a way to check for diseases of the eye.
