The United
Methodist Church, North Katanga Annual Conference, works to meet both
spiritual and physical needs of its people. Thus, in addition to
preaching the Good News of Christ from our pulpits, we have initiated
development projects in the following areas:
- Education: creation and
supervision of preschools, elementary and high schools and colleges.
- Microenterprise: includes
our sewing cooperative, sawmill program, carpentry shop, etc.
- Children: creation and
supervision of orphanage and external feeding program
- Health: creation of
hospitals, clinics, nursing schools, nutritional training center, water
and sanitation program, etc.
- Spiritual: constuction of
churches and parsonages, seminany scholarships, and an initiative to
make Bibles and study materials available and affordable.
- Agriculture: farms and
agricultural training programs/cooperatives
- Breeding: cattle breeding,
beekeeping, fishponds, pig breeding, etc.
In order to supervise existing projects, create new ones, and train
community members in development topics, the conference created the
Development Department.
Office Activites:
- Grant writing
- Supervising projects
- Updating project sponsors
- Leading of development
seminars (example topics: nutrition, gardening, family economics, AIDs,
autofinance, etc.)
Wish List:
The Development Department has written the manuscripts of booklets on
development topics, with the hopes to find funding for the publication
and distribution to pastors and leaders throughout the conference.
Topics include: preventative health care, AIDs, cooperatives, family
economics, basic accounting, livestock raising, gardening, autofinance,
responsible parenting, etc.
Other wishes: budget for
phone calls, bicycles and motorcyles, photocopier, budget for office
supplies (paper, pens, staples, etc.), and Internet connection in
office/budget for using Internet café.
